Winning loser

Colombian cyclist Luis Carlos Chia won a stage of the Vuelta a Colombia bicycle race on June 5 and threw his arms out wide to celebrate after crossing the finish line. But he was immediately forced to grab the handlebars again in an attempt to avoid hitting a group of photographers — among whom was his wife.

Chia struck his wife with his bike, knocking her to the ground, where she lay unconscious as medical staff attended to her. “I don’t understand why she didn’t get out of the way,” Chia said. His wife needed four stitches and was kept under observation in a local hospital, but she is reportedly recovering.

Don’t let your excitement at your own personal accomplishments become something that hurts others in your family. Contrary to what the world says, you can win the race and still be a loser.

  1. Years in the airlines industry we were given goals and standards. I was General manager and coached my employees as family. I was given many bonuses for exceeding expectations. After years I became the highest paid general manager. When upper management needed budget cuts, i shined $$$$ that for one of me they could have three. I was forced into retirement to enable upper management to achieve their goal. My station went to dead last and hurt upper management thus they were replaced. Never did they mention in my earlier years I agreed to pay freezes and 10% cuts. You reap what you sow.
