UPSIDE DOWN

A 1941 artwork by Dutch abstract artist Piet Mondrian has been found to have been hanging upside down in various museums for 75 years. An honest mistake since the piece features interlaced red, yellow, black and blue adhesive tape strips that subtly thicken at the bottom. But a photograph of Mondrian’s studio shows the same piece on an easel — with the “bottom” at the top. However, most museums will not fix it because the adhesive on the tapes is barely hanging on as it is. They are afraid to move it.

Sounds like my life sometimes. I know I’m upside down, but I’ve been that way for so long that now it seems normal. And I’m afraid it might fall apart if I change. It’s time to get right.

Maybe our resolutions in 2024 should start with getting things turned around. Instead of remaining “upside down” in our lives out of fear, we should seek to align ourselves with the vision our Creator had for us in the first place.
